The photo isn’t much to write home about; it was really too dark and the autofocus thingie didn’t want to work hard enough to figure out where the house was. So it’s pretty fuzzy.
But she lights up!
Merry Christmas, or midwinter holiday of your choice, from the Elephant’s Child and the Lady in the Window.

… in quite some time!

I checked on the Lady in the Window several times between September and mid-December, but she wasn’t wearing anything particularly noteworthy. Even at Halloween, when I expected that she would dress up, she was wearing just an ordinary gray-green sort of dress. Had she lost interest in entertaining us, I wondered?
Just when I was about to give up hope, our lady made a comeback.
My son says that her halo, which doesn’t show in this midday picture, lights up at night. I’ll have to pay her another visit at dusk and report on what I see.

She posed for this portrait on the Friday before the storm. I checked on her yesterday: She and her guardian apparently came through without damage to house or property, but she hasn’t decided to change clothes yet, so I’m posting this picture.
A bit of stability in an otherwise chaotic world.

Cute and ready to take on the weekend!

It’s getting more and more difficult to get a good shot of Our Lady in the Window because of all the late summer vegetation in front of the house.
In case you can’t see it well, she is carrying a large shopping bag in her right hand. Hitting all those “back to school” sales, no doubt.

The return of the mannequin.

June 3, 2005: This was not one of her best looks, in my opinion. Maybe it’s just the color of the dress that I’m not crazy about.

But then, on June 10, 2005, she appeared in this:
And she’s been a bride ever since.
Now that the quilt show is over, I promise to keep you much better informed about her comings and goings. Plus, of course, any little doings of mine that might be of mild interest.

Debra asked me yesterday about the current doings of our lovely Lady in the Window.
After she returned from her mysterious little vacation, she appeared in this beautiful dress to entertain her fans.
She wore this for about a week and a half. Then, getting tired of the same look, she slipped into what I thought was an extremely dowdy flowered frock and frumpy hat for a few days.
It wasn’t her most attractive outfit, so I decided not to embarrass her by showing her off as Harried Housewife.
Then this past Saturday, my son came in and said, “Mom, you have to go see the mannequin!”

When last we left our lovely protagonist, she was wearing her after-Easter finery, including the white fur stole that made us wonder: “What really happened to the Easter bunny?”
But just a few days later, an even darker mystery appeared:
(I knew it. The Bunny was out for revenge!)
The Lady was missing for days. We did everything we could.
